Halves is now open every Tuesday at 12 noon for those who have lost their other half to come along, make friends and enjoy a light lunch together. There is also a Saturday group on the first Saturday in each month also at noon.
It can be difficult to make new friends when you are bereaved, but for some time the Ark Church on Monkgate have been running a get together called 'Halves' for those who have lost their other half. From Tuesday February 7th, Halves is going weekly - every Tuesday lunch time! You don't have to book - just turn up for Noon and you will find others who are walking the same journey as you are - learning to live without their other half. A light lunch is provided (it is free, but you can leave a donation if you prefer). Your mug will keep being topped up with filter coffee or Yorkshire Tea. Sitting around tables, you will have the opportunity to meet new people, make friends or just get out of the house. Most people stay around an hour and a half, but you can feel free to come and go as you wish.
We recognise that isolation is a major social problem of our age and Halves is about reducing this problem in York. A few weeks ago one Halves user said to me "You see my husband and I did everything together - now he is gone I am having to start again from scratch". We want Halves to help you start again. You can be sure that you will be there will like minded people.
Halves is a ministry of the Ark Church and has received Lottery funding.
