Live in Los Angeles - Andrae Crouch - CD Review

Tue October 8th, 2013

For those who have relished the experience of every album by the acknowledged master of gospel music, you will remember 'Live in Carnegie Hall' (the first Andrae album I ever bought) to 'Live in London' and now for the completionist this album completes a trilogy of live albums by taking us to his home town of Los Angeles.
The first few bars will take you back years to your first experience of Andrae and will get your foot tapping and your heart worshipping also as the all new arrangement of Right Now introduces the album. The third track is a new recording of I've Got the Best (originally from his Warner years) and this song has never been better! As usual the backing singers and musicians are of the highest quality, but then who wouldn't want to play for Andrae?
Modern renderings of 'Take me Back' and 'It won't be long' are there but the shock will be how can these songs be better than the originals? The set list put together here is incredible, doing justice to his history yet also relaunching a couple of less popular Crouch songs as top notch performances.
Particular note has to be made of 'There's Nobody like Jesus', which is a fantastic re-work of the old classic 'Cain't Nobody Do me Like Jesus'.
This album really give the listener what they want because the penultimate track is a great version of "The Blood" - Andrae's most famous song.
If you don't enjoy this kind of music then I will pray for you....but if you do, buy this and get funky with it!
