As church we watched the DVD "Raised from the Dead" that is available from CfaN. The video tells the true story of Nigerian pastor Daniel Ekechukwu who died on November 30th 2001 as the result of injuries sustained in a car crash.
This documentary interviews his wife, father, the doctor who pronounced him dead and the mortician who embalmed his stiff body.
The story unfolds how his wife remembered promises given to her by God that she would not be "violated" and that the death of her husband was the ultimate violation. She also remembered how in Hebrews 11, it says that "women received their dead raised to life again". She heard that there was a meeting in a nearby town with Evangelist Reinhard Bonnke. She believed that the "anointing" of God would be strong enough to raise her husband from the dead – so on the third day, Sunday, she took him in his coffin to church.
Local pastors who prayed for him described his body like that of a "stock fish" – meaning a dried fish. That dried, stiff body came back to life that day and many rejoiced.
There is an interview with a healthy Pastor Daniel as he visits the doctor who wrote his death certificate and the mortician that embalmed his body. The coffin he travelled in, the cotton wool that blocked his nostrils and the gloves he wore are all on show too.
You cannot watch this without being amazed, and challenged, as Daniel also recounts his journey to paradise with two angels.
This is no tall-story, this is a dramatic retelling of the power of God to raise the dead. Watch it, and rejoice because
Rom 8:11 And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit, who lives in you. NIV
