The Power of Faith - Book Review

Tue January 10th, 2006

David Hathaway became famous in 1965 when after being stopped at the Czechoslovak border with 5000 Bibles destined for Russia, he was arrested, tortured and sentenced to five years in prison – then another five years for preaching the Gospel inside the prison! British Prime Minister Harold Wilson flew to Czechoslovakia to bring him home personally.
Healed from cancer twice and now regularly preaching to millions in Russia and Eastern Europe, David is a towering man in his seventies with the bearing and excitement of a man in his twenties.
His organisation, Eurovision, is one of the largest and most effective missionary organisations in Europe, and his magazine Prophetic Vision has a worldwide readership of half a million.
The Power of Faith is an inspiring book. The Power of Faith has been compiled from a number of different sermons, it doesn't read like it was intended to be a book, but this does not detract from the quality of it's content.
He contends that "we are saved to serve Him" and talks at length on themes of faith in action. He is not a theoretical preacher – he seems to concentrate his teaching on areas that he has proved in his life. His faith is not a philosophical one, but a continual stream of miraculous happenings, many of them shown on live TV in Russia!
One memorable thing that David says is that he never "prays for the sick". This might seem a little hard to swallow until you read that he only "heals the sick". David points out that Jesus didn't pray for the sick either.

God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him. (Acts 10:38 NIV)

This book is full of inspiring stories – that really happened to David Hathaway! At an age that most men would have retired, David Hathaway is now really realising his dream of reaching millions with the gospel of Jesus Christ.
An excellent book to have in the house, and a fabulous ministry to follow. Whenever I hear David preach live, it is always worth the journey, he is a humble man who knows his God and lives out the great commission on a daily basis.
