When you read "This book could save your church or ministry- R.T.Kendall" this is enough for you to stop and flick through the pages immediately! Having done some study of this subject, my eye was caught by both the title and the endorsement.
Looking at a subject that is so rarely talked about, Jackson, is quite open about the fact that some churches are governed by a rebellious spirit that has it's own agenda, rather than the Holy Ghost. Having come across this situation personally, I was interested to read examples and incidents that highlighted the effect of Ahabs and Jezebels in the church today.
As you would imagine, the book deals with the spirit that reproduces in people the pattern of Ahab and Jezebel in I Kings 16:29 to 2 Kings 9. Jackson also looks at Revelation 2:18-29, where Jesus points out his dissatisfaction with the toleration of Jezebel in the church.
Just as Queen Jezebel needed and used Ahab to achieve her ends, Jackson points out that even today most Jezebels use an Ahab to operate their witchcraft. The use of the word witchcraft is often misunderstood, because it primarily means 'manipulation or control', but those operating in a Jezebel spirit are the real witches in today's church.
When we live in a world where the media are always trying to run down the church, it is very sad to admit that these people exist and are indeed abusing the people of God today. Fortunately, books like this help the reader to recognise and deal with the phenomenon when it arises.
I pray that you will never come across someone like this, although if you have a ministry gift, it is probably likely that you will. The book serves as a timely reminder that we are here to serve each other and not to lord authority over each other. As Paul says, he received authority from God 'for building you up, not for tearing you down.' (2 Cor 13:10 NIV)
My biggest shock as I read the book was that I found a real life example (with the names changed) that literally could well be one of the people I have met with this 'controlling spirit'! Whether it was or wasn't I cannot say, but it made me realise the narrow escape I had due to the goodness of God.
The great truth of this book is that however insidious these schemes of the enemy are in ensnaring the church and reducing it's effectiveness, there is always victory available in Christ.
For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds . 2 Cor 10:3-4 NIV
The other encouragement is that God always deals with Ahab and Jezebel and they will have to stand before God – even if they complicate your life right now!
Not a long book – you will read it quickly, and if you think you may be experiencing enchantment or control in your church then make sure you do read it quickly.
