Terrorist Outrage in London

Thu July 7th, 2005

The terrorist attack on London that has been talked about since 9/11 as being 'inevitable' has taken place.
Whist the ordinary people of London were going to work and starting their day the bombers struck, causing as much chaos as they could.
It would appear that the cowardly attack was timed to mark the start of the Gleneagles G8 meeting. There has been a massive build up of public pressure on the UK government to 'Make Poverty History' and 'Live 8' has had the effect of lifting the eyes of the world to the poor of Africa. At this crucial time, attention has been diverted from helping the third world debt problem – a cruel attempt by terrorists to try and keep Africa poor.
These vicious people who care for nothing except the power they try to wield through terror, have successfully gained more publicity than the hard working & caring people who have promoted the predicament of Africa.
Whether the full story will ever be known is always in doubt, but these agents of Satan interrupted what the people of London expected to be 'just another day' and turned it into a nightmare. '7/7' has brought a sudden, unexpected encounter with death for some, and for others it has brought separation, mutilation and personal tragedy.
Where was God in this tragedy? He was where He always is – waiting for us to call on His name.

Acts 2:21 And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.' NIV

God never intended for any of this to happen, but since Man first turned his back on God in Eden, trouble has surrounded us.

Job 5:7 Yet man is born to trouble as surely as sparks fly upward. NIV

Today we live with the consequences of the sin of hundreds of generations of man. Some would say that the Middle East situation that has spawned terrorist groups is the result of the greed and evil perpetrated by previous generations. The cause of trouble is man – NOT God. The answer to trouble is for man to turn back to God.

Heb 9:27 Everyone has to die once, then face the consequences. THE MESSAGE

We all die and then have to face God. If we don't believe in life after death, it will not stop us standing before God. If we don't believe in God, it will not stop Him judging us. If we don't believe in Jesus the Son of God, there is no escape from judgement.

John 3:18 People who believe in God's Son are not judged guilty. Those who do not believe have already been judged guilty, because they have not believed in God's one and only Son NCV

On 7/7 some people were propelled into the presence of a righteous God for judgement – no time to prepare themselves. We cannot count on another day – we need to make a step towards God. We don't have to make our peace with Him because Jesus has done that – we just have to accept the terms for peace that He offers.

Rom 10:9 For if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. NLT

For those who are bereaved or have had their lives changed for ever, it is also time to consider eternity. God wants a relationship with us all – and times like this offer us a wake-up call to make that step towards God.
If you have suffered loss or injury on 7/7, we are praying for you. If you have bravely helped in the aftermath, then we salute you and thank God for you. But out of the horror of the trouble you have seen, please draw close to the God who loves you and wants to walk with you in a world of trouble and bring you peace.
