Breaking bread is one of two ordinances left by the Lord Jesus and instituted by Him (the other being baptism). Because Jesus clearly meant for us to eat bread and drink wine ‘in remembrance of him’ it is fundamental to our meeting together as a church and essential to our walk with God.
There are just a couple of ‘sacraments’ that the church should follow and they are remembering the death of Jesus by eating and drinking bread and wine and being baptised.
As I write this, I am pondering on the loss of the great Billy Graham – a man who led countless souls to Christ and was truly an evangelist in the New Testament sense.
In the centre of the garden of Eden were two trees – the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. The first tree we see fulfilled in Jesus – we gain eternal life from Him. What was the second tree though and does it have any impact on us today?
